Renewable energy and water desalination firm, ACWA Power, met with Egypt’s Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, to discuss the company’s efforts to bring sustainable solutions to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region’s water security and supply. Taking place on 17 July, on the sidelines of a ceremony to develop a 10 GW wind project in Egypt’s Western Sohag region, the meeting between ACWA Power and Egypt’s Ministry showcased the extension of cooperation in the field of water desalination to help counter Egypt’s water shortage challenges.
“We are honored by the trust placed in us by H.E. Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, and are grateful to be able to contribute to the government’s vision to secure the country’s long-term water supplies,” stated ACWA Power CEO, Marco Arcelli.

Arcelli, added “We look forward to working closely with the Egyptian authorities over the coming years, who clearly share our commitment for the sustainable and responsible development of its communities and ensuring a brighter future for all.”
ACWA Power operates 16 desalination plants in four countries in the MENA region, managing approximately 6.8 million m3 of desalinated water per day.
In 2022, the renewable energy company added roughly 2.4 million m3 per day of water desalination capacity in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates.
