Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye conducted a visit to the offshore Sangomar oil field on Tuesday to mark first oil production – which began earlier this month.
The President was accompanied by Meg O’Neill, CEO of operator Woodside Energy; Birame Souleye Diop, Senegalese Minister of Energy, Petroleum and Mines; Birame Diop, Senegalese Minister of the Armed Forces; and Thierno Seydou Ly, CEO of Senegal’s national oil company Petrosen.
With estimated reserves of 630 million barrels, the Sangomar development aims for an initial production of 100,000 barrels per day. During the visit, President Faye reaffirmed his commitment to transparent and equitable management of the country’s natural resources for the benefit of the Senegalese people.
“I salute the dedication of those who believed in this oceanic resource and promoted the Senegal sedimentary basin. I am proud to witness young Senegalese talents deploying their expertise on this impressive platform,” said President Faye.
