Australian natural gas producer, Woodside Energy has announced a delay in its drilling activities in Senegal’s Sangomar offshore wells. The company has postponed activities until the second quarter of 2021 due to the effects COVID-19 has had on the oil and gas industry.
The start of the campaign, which comprises 23 wells, was scheduled for the first quarter of 2021. Due to the international nature of the project, Woodside will begin drilling on June 31, 2021. However, the first barrel of the phase 1 development in the Sangomar field is still on track for delivery in 2023.
“For now, we have been successful in mitigating and sustaining the impacts of COVID-19. It is indeed evident that since COVID-19 emerged, we have had serious problems organizing staff mobility and supply. But we have succeeded, with the close collaboration of all the players, in maintaining the deadline,” said Géraud Moussarie, Director of Woodside Energy.
Woodside expects to complete the acquisition of Joint Venture (JV) partner Cairn Energy’s interest in the JV before the end of the year.
