Global energy company Woodside has commenced oil production from the Sangomar field offshore Senegal.
The Sangomar Field Development Phase 1 is a deepwater project featuring a 100,000-barrel per day FPSO facility. The first phase of development involves 23 wells – comprising 11 production, 10 water injection and 2 gas injection wells – with 21 wells completed to date. Woodside plans to continue commissioning and ramping up production through 2024.
Developed in partnership with Senegalese national oil company Petrosen, Sangomar targets 230 million barrels of crude oil reserves and is set to transform Senegal into a major regional producer.
“Delivering Senegal’s first offshore oil project safely, through a period of unprecedented global challenge, demonstrates Woodside’s world-class project execution capability,” said Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill.
“First oil from the Sangomar field marks a new era not only for our country’s industry and economy, but most importantly for our people,” said Thierno Ly, Director General of Petrosen E&P.
