The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will contribute $235 million to support Angola’s National Development Plan – including the Lobito Corridor – over the next five years, the Lobito Corridor Investment Promotion Authority announced last week.
USAID Administrator Samantha Power and Deputy Secretary Richard Verma visited Angola in April for talks with government officials, civil society, medical researchers, and private sector stakeholders. They focused on improving the business environment, particularly in agriculture and developing the Lobito Corridor, which is expected to have positive impacts on the region’s development.
Additionally, USAID revealed a $5 million expansion of its Women in Angola Farming program, aiming to empower women in the agricultural sector, as well as financial support for the Angolan President’s Malaria Initiative.
