The British government has offered £1 million ($1.2 million) in funds to develop technical skills in Senegal aimed at accelerating the green transition.
The West African nation is strengthening its engagement on climate finance, with a view to cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030 and fostering a greener economy for its citizens.
The funds will be used to enhance technical expertise for building infrastructure centered on equitable commerce, sustainable waste management and the circular economy.
The financial package falls under the Just Energy Transition Partnership that was launched last June by Senegal and an international group of partners – comprising France, Germany, the European Union, the UK and Canada – to support Senegal’s efforts to attain universal access to electricity and a low-carbon energy mix.
“Senegal’s commitment to sustainable growth aligns with London’s efforts,” said British Deputy Ambassador to Senegal, Jonathan Croft. “This funding underlines our dedication to nurturing green initiatives that benefit both countries and the global environment.”
