In 2017, Trident Energy acquired half of Hess Corporation’s interests in the oil-producing Ceiba and Okume fields (Block G) and signed agreements in three new exploration licenses for offshore blocks W, S and EG-21 as well. Trident Energy is proud to commit to a five-year program together with Ministry of Mines and Hydrocarbons (MMH) and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Gender Equality to support mothers2mothers (m2m) to develop a program that delivers benefits for women’s empowerment and family health in Equatorial Guinea. Trident Energy will contribute to the funding of this social program with an amount of $6.25 million together with the government of Equatorial Guinea through the MMH, for a global budget of $12.5 million.
m2m is an African non-profit that unlocks the power of women to improve the health and wellbeing of women, children and adolescents. Through its peer-based model, m2m employs and trains local women as frontline healthcare workers across eight African nations. These ‘Mentor Mothers’ work both in health facilities and communities to deliver services, support and education to women and families on a range of critical health issues, including reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health, HIV/AIDS, early childhood development and adolescent health.
Since m2m was founded in 2001, it has created over 10,000 jobs for women, providing them with professional expertise, leadership skills, educational opportunities and earning power to help support their families and communities. These women have reached more than 11 million women and children under two years old. m2m has achieved virtual elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV for enrolled clients for the last five years in a row, and in 2017, 97% of children in m2m’s early childhood development program achieved all of their developmental milestones at their first birthday.
