French major TotalEnergies and Algeria’s state-owned Sonatrach have signed an agreement for the appraisal and development of gas resources in the country’s Timimoun region.
The planned work program will leverage existing processing facilities from the onshore Timimoun field.
“This Memorandum of Understanding reflects our shared willingness to expand our strategic partnership with Sonatrach”, said Julien Pouget, Senior Vice President Middle East & North Africa, Exploration & Production at TotalEnergies.
Owned by Sonatrach (51%), TotalEnergies (37.75%) and Spain’s Cepsa (11.25%), the Timimoun natural gas project comprises 37 production wells from eight structures to produce approximately 160 million cubic feet of gas per day.
Algeria is a major LNG supplier to France, which is turning to the African continent to expand its energy supplies. In 2025, Sonatrach will deliver two million tons of LNG to TotalEnergies.
