Global integrated energy firm TotalEnergies is developing an all-electric and zero emissions FPSO as part of the Kaminho project in Angola in line with its 2050 net-zero emissions target, according to Martin Deffontaines, Managing Director of TotalEnergies E&P Angola.
Speaking to Energy Capital & Power at the Angola Oil & Gas 2024 conference, Deffontaines said the company has installed six low-emissions FPSOs since 2015, ensuring increased oil and gas production and environmental sustainability in Angola.
‘We are opening a new petroleum basin with Kaminho, our seventh FPSO in Angola,” he said, adding that the $6 billion project is extra ordinary in terms of emissions.
“It is an all-electric FPSO with zero emissions and a lot of innovations,” he noted. The project will provide 10 million man-hours during construction and operation, driving Angola’s employment creation and local content development agenda.
TotalEnergies is also developing a 35 MW solar power plant in Quilemba as part of its energy transition efforts.
Commenting on the role of digital technologies in advancing the firm’s low-carbon energy efforts, Deffontaines said “We have opened a digital factory at our headquarters, which provides new tools and innovations to improve ourselves and affiliates. We have software we use to identify the sources of emissions and ways to reduce a project’s footprint.”
Kaminho will produce 70,000 barrels per day once operational in 2028.
