Global geophysical scientific data company, TGS, has announced plans for the start-up of a new 2D seismic survey in the Mauritania-Senegal-Gambia-Bissau-Conakry (MSGBC) Basin, offshore Mauritania, contributing to the success of the North-West Africa Atlantic Margin (NWAAM) 2D campaign.
The survey, NWAAM 2021, with support from Mauritania’s Ministry of Hydrocarbons, will last 60 days and deploy a modern broadband acquisition set-up over an area of 7,500km. The research and survey vessel, BGP Pioneer, will conduct the survey, targeting ultra-deep and deepwater areas to acquire insight into the oil-prone area.
TGS has noted that the survey will provide explorers the opportunity to expand on the success of the Greater Tortue Ahmeyin complex and surrounding discoveries.
“Our latest seismic survey offshore Mauritania will provide explorers with the subsurface intelligence needed to assess the hydrocarbon potential of the deep and ultra-deepwater. The full dataset of the seismic survey is expected to be made available by Q2 2022.
