Global geophysical scientific data company, TGS, has announced plans for the start-up of a new 2D seismic survey in the Mauritania-Senegal-Gambia-Bissau-Conakry (MSGBC) Basin, offshore Mauritania, contributing to the success of the North-West Africa Atlantic Margin (NWAAM) 2D campaign.
The survey, NWAAM 2021, with support from Mauritania’s Ministry of Hydrocarbons, will last 60 days and deploy a modern broadband acquisition set-up over an area of 7,500km. The research and survey vessel, BGP Pioneer, will conduct the survey, targeting ultra-deep and deepwater areas to acquire insight into the oil-prone area.
TGS has noted that the survey will provide explorers the opportunity to expand on the success of the Greater Tortue Ahmeyin complex and surrounding discoveries.
“Our latest seismic survey offshore Mauritania will provide explorers with the subsurface intelligence needed to assess the hydrocarbon potential of the deep and ultra-deepwater. We see this project as the natural continuation of our successful NWAAM campaign, on of our flagship projects in Africa.” stated TGS CEO, Kristian Johansen, who added “The MSGBC Basin remains an important region for our clients, and TGS is well positioned with its unique combination of multibeam, seafloor sampling, seismic interpretation, and imaging products to deliver the best subsurface knowledge in the industry.”
The full dataset of the seismic survey is expected to be made available by Q2 2022.
In response to growing demand for renewable power, and increasing interest by international stakeholders to invest, develop, and succeed in Africa, Energy Capital & Power will hold the MSGBC Oil, Gas, & Power 2021 conference and exhibition on the 1-3 December 2021. Focused on enhancing regional partnerships, spurring investment and development in the oil, gas and power sectors, the conference will unite regional international stakeholders with African opportunities, serving as a growth-oriented platform for Africa’s energy sector.
