Mauritanian Minister of Petroleum, Mines, and Energy Nani Ould Chrougha, has signed an exploration-production contract for the development of the Banda gas field in Mauritania with the Taqa Arabia Go Gas Consortium.
The Banda gas field is located 55 km offshore Nouakchott and is estimated to hold 1.2 trillion cubic feet of gas.
Gas production is slated to start in 2027, with subsequent plans to convert Nouakchott’s existing 180 MW dual-fuel power plant to gas and to build an additional 120 MW to 240 MW combined cycle plant.
The third phase will develop a gas-to-liquids industry and introduce compressed natural gas for vehicles, representing a total investment of approximately $1.3 billion.
