Tanzania will host a sub-regional training center for renewable energy, in the Hai district, in the Kilimanjaro region. The center will be supported by the World Bank and will help to improve the Kikuletwa Training Center that runs under the Arusha Technical College, funded by the Norwegian Government.
The training center is part of the Eastern Africa skills for transformation and regional integration project. The program, which is implemented in Tanzania, Kenya and Ethiopia, aims to develop specialized technical skills in the transport, energy, agricultural processing, manufacturing and information and communications technology sectors, including hydropower.
“The World Bank has agreed to support us in the efforts to turn the Kikuletwa Training Centre into a Centre of Excellency in Renewable Energy in the coming five years, through the Eastern Africa Skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project, a move that will make it a center of excellence in hydropower related training in the East African region,” said ATC Acting Rector, Engineer Dr. Masudi Senzia.
Tanzania is also planning to expand its reach by opening 42 technical training centers throughout the country. This will help accommodate about 1,500 students each year, and will enable Tanzania to train its technicians on site.
