Tanzania’s Ministry of Minerals has launched a development strategy for its mining industry. Spearheaded by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, the strategy involves developing a critical mineral policy, ensuring supply reliability, promoting exploration and innovation and fostering sustainable and responsible mining practices
The initiative, which includes critical and rare earth minerals such as graphite, lithium, nickel and neodymium emphasizes Tanzania’s commitment to unlocking the full potential of its mineral deposits through beneficiation.
According to Permanent Secretary of Tanzania’s Ministry of Minerals Kheri Mahimbali the economic benefits of responsible mining are apparent, with the mining sector contributing approximately 10% to the country’s GDP in 2023 and accounting for nearly 60% of foreign exchange earnings.
Responsible practices have attracted over $2 billion in new investments, with additional commitments exceeding $1 billion, particularly in critical and rare earth minerals.
