German engineering company, TAKRAF Group, has signed a contract with Mauritania’s state-owned National Industrial and Mining Company (SNIM) for the turnkey supply of a ship loader and conveyor system for the West African country’s F’Derick iron ore project.
Under the contract, which serves as the company’s second major contract award in West Africa, TAKRAF will provide a complete iron ore in-put crushing, screening, and material handling system – as well as a train holding system – for the F’Derick project.
“This project is of paramount importance to the country of Mauritania and is a testament to the excellent cooperation and expertise of SNIM and the TAKRAF Group,” stated TAKRAF CEO, Thomas Jabs.
The new ship loader will be constructed by TAKRAF, with delivery of the equipment to the Port of Nouadhibou expected within approximately two years.
“The F’Derick project deepens our longstanding partnership with SNIM, which began over a decade ago and further strengthens TAKRAF’s commitment to contribute to the growth and prosperity of the region,” stated TAKRAF Group Sales Manager, Norbert Neumann.
The F’Derick iron ore deposit currently boasts a production rate of approximately 12 million tons per year. Delivery of the ship loader to the project is expected to assist SNIM in its stated goal of increasing production to 18 million tons.
