South Sudan Minister Focuses on New Oil & Gas Regulations in Nigeria Visit

South Sudan has reaffirmed its commitment to the implementation of new local content regulations in oil & gas, during a meeting between Minister of Petroleum Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth and Nigerian President Mohammadu Buhari.
Speaking with the President in Abuja on Tuesday, the Minister said South Sudan was expanding its oil & gas infrastructure and putting more wells into production.
He requested technical support and cooperation in the sector from President Buhari, and appealed to Nigeria to share its experience in the hydrocarbons industry with South Sudan.
“Being Africa’s largest oil producer, Nigeria has vast experience in the oil & gas industry which can be very beneficial to South Sudan,” Minister Gatkuoth said, adding that South Sudan was looking forward to learning from Nigeria’s experience in domestic capacity building.
Discussing bilateral cooperation between the two countries, Minister Gatkuoth requested that President Buhari support the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on Resolution to the Conflict in of South Sudan, signed in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on August 12.
President Buhari stated Nigeria’s support to the people of South Sudan in their search for peace and stability.
The Minister also conveyed to President Buhari a message from South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardiit, congratulating him on the occasion of the 58th Anniversary of Nigeria’s independence, which took place on October 1, and sent his best wishes for the upcoming general election.
