- South Sudan’s Ministry of Petroleum announced that the details of its licensing round will be unveiled at the South Sudan Oil & Power 2019 Conference & Exhibition taking place on October 29-30, in Juba.
- Eight onshore blocks have been mapped in terms of coordinates and land size.
- 70 percent of South Sudan’s oil and gas acreage remains unexplored, leaving room for geophysical and seismic data to be collected.
Cape Town, South Africa, October 9, 2019 – South Sudan’s Ministry of Petroleum will reveal the details of its 2020 oil and gas licensing round at South Sudan Oil & Power 2019, taking in place in Juba on October 29-30.
The announcement of the tender ¬- which was made during a presentation at the Africa Oil & Power Cape Town 2019 Conference & Exhibition on Wednesday – will include the dates, requirements and other details of the tender. The Ministry intends to officially launch the round by the last quarter of 2019 or the first quarter of 2020.
Blocks A1-A8 have been mapped for competitive bidding, including known coordinates and area coverage. There is no known exploration data yet for these blocks.
“Most of the blocks are in proximity to current producing blocks, so this makes it clear to investors that acreage in close proximity carries strong potential for investment. The blocks are distributed countrywide, and are not concentrated in one place,” said Arkangelo Okwang Ojok, Director General of Training, Planning, and Research for the Ministry of Petroleum.
Bidders are invited to submit their own applications and track the status of their bids through a transparent process.
The Ministry also addressed other opportunities that exist within its burgeoning oil and gas sector.
“Apart from the licensing round, we have investment potential in terms of provision of services to the current operating companies. If there are competitive companies that can challenge current production technology, then they are highly welcome. Some technologies are already helping, but we need new innovations to come in and improve the production of oil. South Sudan is the current destination for investment whose resources have never been exploited. You are welcome to be the first person to start investing in South Sudan.”
