Africa Energy Corp. expects Odfjell Drilling’s semi-submersible, Deepsea Stavanger, to leave for South Africa this month. However, timing depends on the rate of global spread of COVID-19.
The Deepsea Stavanger is set to make the initial drilling in the Luiperd prospect at the Paddavissie Fairway, with the campaign targeting numerous de-risked underwater fan prospects with considerable potential wealth.
To follow up on the discovery of light oil and gas condensate in Brulpadda at the same concession in February 2019, Total launched a multi-well contract on the South African offshore block 11B/12B, last July.
Africa Energy is also planning to close offshore block 2B farm-outs where the next exploration site, Gazania-1, is anticipated to surge by the end of 2020. The prospective resources of Block 2B are found in shallow water along the coast, which includes the 1988 A-J1 discovery that flowed light, sweet crude to the surface.
The Gazania-1 well will target two prospects in what is considered to be a fairly low-risk rift basin oil up-dip from the A-J1.
