Energy solutions firm Stratek Global signed a partnership agreement with financing firm Koya Capital to construct a R9 billion small nuclear reactor in South Africa.
Koya Capital will help raise funding to support the installation of Stratek Global’s HTMR-100 small nuclear reactor, producing 100 MW of heat and 35 MW of electricity. The South African-engineered system is designed to utilize less water, thereby enabling the reactor to be installed in a variety of locations across the country.
Stephen Edkins, Head of CleanTech at Koya Capital, said “This collaboration transcends mere reactor construction, it is about establishing a benchmark in clean, dependable energy for Africa. There is a growing realization that nuclear energy is the best way to address the substantial demand for clean base-load power in Africa and around the world.”
