Renewable energy developer Mulilo has reached financial close on the 75 MW Ukuqala solar project in South Africa.
Situated near De Aar in South Africa’s Northern Cape province, the Ukuqala solar project will be connected to the Kestrel Main Transmission Substation, which is currently under construction. Electricity from the project will be wheeled to various locations and used to power chemical industry company Air Products’ air separation units across the country.
Operations and maintenance services for the plant will be overseen by a multidisciplinary team from Mulilo, which will also manage the project’s construction and asset management.
Ukuqala serves as the sixth project Mulilo has closed in 2024 and will be one of four other Mulilo projects connected to the Kestrel Main Transmission Substation.
The Ukuqala solar project features 105 MW direct current installed capacity along with a 75 MW alternate current maximum output. This design offers a high dc/ac ratio, enabling the plant to reach maximum output earlier in the day and sustain approximately 248 GWh of power per year.
