South Africa has launched its first project preparation bid window, allowing state-owned entities, municipalities and public entities to apply for support in developing infrastructure projects.
Announced by Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson and Acting Head of Infrastructure South Africa (ISA) Mameetse Masemola, the initiative aims to remove long-standing barriers to infrastructure investment by providing critical technical, legal and funding assistance.
“This initiative will enable us to move beyond the talking phase and focus on action,” said Macpherson.
Priority sectors include energy, water and sanitation, transport, social infrastructure and industrial zones. Successful applicants will receive support such as regulatory compliance studies, funding structuring and capacity deployment.
The initiative builds on the R179 million allocated by National Treasury for infrastructure preparation and aims to drive job creation and economic growth across South Africa.
“To address these challenges and unlock the potential of infrastructure investments in South Africa, ISA will catalyze seed funding to support project development,” added Masemola.
The new bid window builds on the 12 infrastructure initiatives President Cyril Ramaphosa previously announced at the Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium South Africa in March this year.
