Natural gas and helium exploration company D3 Energy has spud the RBD12 appraisal well within the ER315 permit in the Free State province in South Africa.
The company is currently leading an exploration and appraisal program at the permit to unlock the full extent of its helium and gas resources. This follows recent testing at the RBD03 and RBD10 wells, which indicated sustained flow rates and strong helium concentrations.
South Africa is one of a handful of countries globally to produce liquid helium, which was achieved in May from Renergen’s Virginia gas project.
As a result, the country represents a critical player in the global helium market, which is crucial for industries such as scientific research, medical technology, high-manufacturing, national defense and space exploration.
