DORiS Engenharia Angola Lda (DEAL) is an international reference for delivering high-quality engineering in Angola’s oil and gas sector. DEAL Managing Director, Michel Hamon, spoke to Africa Energy Series – Angola, about how DEAL has been pushing boundaries with superior engineering in Angola.
“Angola is a very important market for the DORiS Group. It is a top priority at the moment. When we get a contract in Angola, we usually share the work with other offices of DORiS Group in Paris, Houston or in the U.K. So, Angola is not just a market for the Doris entity in Angola, but also for many other entities within the group.”
Part of the French upstream oil and gas engineering consultancy company DORiS Group, DORiS Engenharia Angola Lda (DEAL) provides engineering and technical assistance to operators and contractors in Angola’s oil and gas industry. Clients include Total, Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Limited (CABGOC), Eni, Sonangol, Heerema Marine Contractors and Subsea7.
Operating on five continents and entering the Angolan market in 2008, DORiS Group develops and designs all parts of the field: subsea developments, fixed and floating platforms, topsides and substructures, onshore facilities and fixed and floating wind turbines, cables and transformer platforms. It also provides engineering consulting, technical assistance, project management and asset management services.
Prior to the market downturn in 2014, the firm was active in conducting a series of deep-water studies in Angola and West Africa, including a front-end engineering design study for Total’s Kaombo project in ultra-deep-water Block 32 and a subsea process design and layout study for Eni-operated Block 15/06. While the company was hit hard by the crisis in terms of its pipeline of projects in-country, it anticipates market demand for both engineering and then technical assistance to increase in 2020, as more projects get commissioned and the opportunity to compete for bids will render more work.
While DORiS Group operates exclusively in the oil and gas industry in Angola, it provides services for the renewable energy industry in other countries, such as the U.K. As the demand for clean and sustainable energy is increasing, entering the renewables sector in Angola is within the realm of future possibilities for the firm. For now, the key objective for DORiS Group is to remain in Angola and focus on its long-term developments.
