Algeria’s National Oil Company Sonatrach has awarded a $210 million contract to construction engineering firm China Petroleum Engineering & Construction Company (CPECC) to revitalize the Alrar gas field in the Illizi basin.
The project aims to maintain the Alrar gas field’s output at 10 million cubic meters per day by enhancing reservoir pressure. This revitalization is essential as the field, in production since 1984, has experienced a plateau in output.
CPECC’s contract includes upgrading surface equipment by installing three gas compressors, a condensate system and a new gas processing unit. The company will also improve condensate handling, upgrade the flare system, build essential piping and structures and set up a modern control room.
The project is scheduled for completion within 32 months, with commissioning set for the second quarter of 2027. CPECC will also provide 24 months of maintenance for the new infrastructure.
