Angola’s national oil company Sonangol and Turkish industrial group Tosyali will partner on the development of the Kassinga mining and steel project in the Angolan province of Huíla.
According to a statement from Angola’s Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, Sonangol will become part of a “new corporate structure” of Tosyali Iron & Steel Angola SA, the company leading the project’s development.
The agreement follows a visit by Angolan Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas Diamantino Azevedo, accompanied by Sonangol CEO Sebastião Gaspar Martins and Angolan Ambassador to Turkey José Patrício, to the Tosyali steel complex in Hatay.
The Kassinga project, which aims to start production in mid-2027, will revitalize the Jamba Mineira iron project in Huíla and facilitate the processing of iron into steel at the Sacomar Mineral Terminal in Namibe Province.
The project supports Angola’s goal to diversify its economy by expanding mining, manufacturing and industrial sectors and supplying both domestic and international markets.
