Angola’s national oil company Sonangol has launched an international tender to 21 companies for the supply of refined petroleum products.

The winner of the tender will help meet the country’s growing demand for gasoline and diesel for the period between April 1, 2023 and March 31, 2024. Despite being one of the largest oil producers on the continent, Angola’s current production of refined petroleum products meets less than one-third of its domestic demand, with the country’s refining capacity remaining severely underserved.

As a result, Angola has been spearheading the large-scale expansion of its downstream sector, which involves the construction of several planned refineries and addition of 360,000 barrels per day of new refining capacity.
