Indian renewable energy firm Soleos Energy – in collaboration with electrical engineering company Melci Holdings – has launched construction of a 200 MW solar park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Representing a $200-million investment, the project will supply clean electricity to over a million people, while reducing carbon emissions by 300,000 tons annually. The solar park is expected to create over 2,000 jobs during its construction phase and more than 500 permanent roles once operational.
Scheduled for completion by late-2026, the project will help secure reliable energy for the DRC under a 25-year power purchase agreement with state utility Société Nationale d’Électricité. Soleos Energy aims to construct up to 1 GW of solar capacity in the DRC.
“Our 200 MW solar park will not only meet growing energy demands, but also stimulate the local economy through job creation and sustainable development. This project stands as a testament to our commitment to delivering innovative renewable energy solutions in Africa,” said Dhaval Jiyani, CEO of Soleos Energy.
