Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye conducted a working visit to Nigeria last week to strengthen economic cooperation in the oil and gas sector.
Nigeria is a crucial trading partner for Senegal, accounting for 68.7% of its ECOWAS imports and ranking second in commercial ties within the zone.
The two oil-producing countries have already established ties in the energy sector. In February 2023, Senegal’s National Agency for Monitoring Local Content and Nigeria’s National Content Development Monitoring Council signed an agreement to enhance local content in Senegal’s oil and gas industry.
First oil production from Sangomar is anticipated soon, while the FPSO for bp and Kosmos’ offshore gas project, Grande Tortue Ahmeyim, anchored at the site on May 14.
