Senegal has loaded its first crude cargo from the Sangomar oil project onto the Maran Poseidon crude tanker.
With a capacity of 1.06 million barrels, the tanker is chartered by shipping company Shell International Trading and arrived at the project’s export terminal on July 1.
Crude oil from the development is being loaded from the 1.3-million-barrel FPSO Leopold Sedar Senghor and will be delivered to energy supermajor Shell.
The $5.2-billion Sangomar field development is operated by global energy company Woodside Energy and aims for an initial production of 100,000 barrels per day. The first phase of the development involves 23 wells – comprising 11 production, 10 water injection and 2 gas injection wells – and targets an estimated resource base of 630 million barrels.
Set to join the ranks of oil-exporting countries, the shipment comes three weeks after the Sangomar field development achieved first oil earlier this year.
