The International Solar Alliance (ISA) – an intergovernmental organization for the increased deployment of solar energy technologies worldwide – has inaugurated a Solar Academy in Senegal.
Situated at the École Polytechnique de Thiès (EPT), the academy provides certified, long-term training programs on solar energy for Senegalese citizens. With funding from France, the Solar Academy has already begun its first training session for solar PV technicians, with 27 participants joining.
The academy forms part of the ISA’s Solar Technology Application Resource (STAR) Center initiative, aimed at establishing centers for training, knowledge and expertise in solar energy across members countries. The ISA established STAR Centers in Ethiopia and Somalia in 2024.
According to Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General of the ISA, “These centers are crucial for supporting the growth and sustainability of the solar energy sector. With increasing interest from countries, the potential to form a regional and global network of STAR Centers is growing.”
