Senegal’s Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has announced that the government has established a commission to review contracts awarded to foreign companies in the oil and gas sectors.
The Contract Review Commission will comprise Senegalese government officials and a team of experts in the areas of law, tax, economics and energy regulation. The commission will ensure that awarded contracts serve Senegal’s national interests.
After assuming office in March 2024, Senegalese President Bassirou Faye pledged to renegotiate contracts with foreign operators and initiated an audit of the oil, gas and mining sectors.
This decision follows Senegal‘s milestone achievement of producing its first oil from Woodside’s Sangomar project in June 2024, with first gas from bp and Kosmos Energy’s Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project expected by the end of the year.
