Senegalese President H.E. Macky Sall has appointed former Mines and Geology Minister H.E. Aissatou Sophie Gladima as the new Minister of Petroleum and Energy, in a bid to form a team to manage the economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
H.E. Gladima has a background in ecology, water management and wetlands conservation, and served as a technical advisor on mining and hydraulics at the National Soil Institute. Dr. Gladima also served as President at the National Institute of Pedology; as Minister of Post, Telecommunications and ICT; and as Director of the National Agency for Applied Scientific Research.
In her new position, H.E. Gladima will work closely with the President and Mamadou Faye, Managing Director of state-owned petroleum company Petrosen. She holds a doctorate in hydrogeology, applied geophysics, and hydrochemistry, and is a professor at the Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar.
