Renewable energy firm ACWA Power and Senegal’s Ministry of Water have sealed an $800 million water purchase agreement for a desalination plant in Dakar.
ACWA Power will spearhead the project, overseeing infrastructure, design, financing, construction, as well as operation and maintenance of the Grande Cote seawater desalination plant.
The first phase of the plant is projected to commence in 2028, with operations set to span 32 years.
This initiative aims to alleviate the scarcity of clean water in Senegal by producing 400,000 cubic meters per day.
The venture builds on ACWA Power’s collaboration with Senegal in September 2022 which outlined plans for the development of a 300,000 cubic meters per day seawater reverse osmosis plant in Grande Cote.
