Sasol has invited interested bidders to participate in a Request for Proposals (RFP) process for the development of two embedded 10MW solar photovoltaic (PV) facilities located at its South African Operations in Secunda, Mpumalanga and in Sasolburg, in the Free State province.
The Successful bidders are expected to finance, design, construct and own the solar PV facilities and their associated connection infrastructure to supply 10MW of power to each of Sasol’s operations, at their own cost.
“We are excited to launch the RFP which forms part of our broader Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission reduction aspiration and moves us forward on our journey to achieving our target of a 10% GHG emission reduction by 2030,” says Herman Wenhold, Sasol Chief Sustainability Officer.
The successful bidders will also supply electricity from the solar PV facilities to Sasol as Independent Power Producers, as part of a long-term Power Purchase Agreement.
This move is Sasol’s first step towards realizing its commitment to eventually procuring 600MW of renewable energy capacity.
The closing date for proposal submissions is Friday, October 2, 2020.
