South African integrated energy and chemicals company Sasol and national utility Eskom are exploring options for aggregating gas supplies and accelerating LNG uptake across the country.
The two companies signed a cooperation agreement last Friday to assess the LNG volumes needed to establish a sustainable import market and build the requisite infrastructure, as well as consolidate the role of LNG in driving power generation, reindustrialization and decarbonization.
According to South Africa’s Minister of Electricity and Energy Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, Qatar is a top potential LNG supplier for the country.
