Mining exploration and investment firm Marula Mining confirmed the presence of a high-grade manganese ore zone in Kilifi, Kenya, based on assay sample results.
The manganese deposit, measuring up to 1m in thickness, is found at depths of approximately 5m along a 30km manganese-rich belt in the Ganze region of Kenya.
Assayed by Kenya’s national State Department for Mining, the samples confirm the potential for Marula Mining to process up to 10,000 tons of manganese per month at its refinery in Kilifi from September 2024.
Manganese will be supplied as part of a mineral supply agreement signed with mining company Kitmin Holdings Limited in August 2024 to produce high-grade manganese products or blends for the global market.
The company is currently negotiating additional manganese supply agreements to increase the Kilifi Refinery’s capacity to between 15,000 and 20,000 tons per month. The refinery is projected to generate up to $400,000 per month, which Marula Mining plans to reinvest in expanding its mining operations in Kenya and East Africa.
