The Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board (RMB) has announced the discovery of potential hydrocarbon resources in Lake Kivu.
A 2D seismic survey conducted between 2021 and 2022 revealed a deep sedimentary thickness of approximately 3.5 km, indicating hydrocarbon occurrences. The survey also identified 13 structural pockets and potential drilling locations within the basin.
“In light of the foregoing, RMB is pitching for relevant potential actors to participate in further stages of exploration, development and production of oil and gas of Lake Kivu basin,” stated RMB.
