Green energy supplier Renergen has announced the start of commercial production at its liquid helium production plant in South Africa.
The company is now accumulating an inventory of liquid helium for sale to the international market, with ISO-containers due to arrive later this month.
“We can now declare South Africa one of a select few countries worldwide to produce liquid helium for the global market,” stated Renergen CEO Stefano Marani.
Renergen initially started liquid helium production at its Virginia Gas Project – situated in the Free State Province of South Africa – on July 19. Initial production was used to cool the vacuum-jacketed pipelines and inline helium storage tank, a prerequisite to ensure that liquid helium remains liquid once sent to storage.
