The Namibian government, through the Office of the Environmental Commissioner in the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism, has awarded Canadian oil and gas company Reconnaissance Energy Africa (ReconAfrica) an Environmental Clearance Certificate to drill 12 additional wells in the Kavango Basin.
The certificate allows the Canadian explorer to progress with its exploration campaign at PEL 73, which covers an area of ~6.3 million acres in the onshore Kavanga Basin, situated in the north-eastern region of the country.
The environmental authorization expires mid-2026.
ReconAfrica will assess the commercial viability of oil, natural gas and natural gas liquid accumulations discovered in three previous test wells drilled by the company. In Q3 and Q4 of this year, ReconAfrica will be prioritizing exploration in the Damara Fold Belt and the Karoo Rift Basin.
