Exploration company ReconAfrica has found oil indications at its Naingopo exploration well, located onshore Namibia within the Damara Fold Belt. The well, situated on PEL 73, encountered 52 meters of net reservoir oil.
“Further drilling is planned to delineate the full extent of the Damara Fold Belt play. Multiple indications of oil were encountered in the Naingopo well and we plan to continue to analyze all fluid and rock samples, which may take several months,” stated ReconAfrica President and CEO Brian Reinsborough.
The results were derived from well log analysis, with further confirmation expected from sidewall cores. These results are currently undergoing analysis by third-party service providers.
ReconAfrica plans to drill Prospect I in the Damara Fold Belt, with follow-up drilling scheduled for July 2025. Additionally, the company is preparing a 3D seismic acquisition program for the Rift Basin and Damara Fold Belt, set to begin in the second half of 2025.
ReconAfrica operates PEL 73 with a 70% working interest, while partners include BW Energy, holding 20%, and Namibia’s national oil company NAMCOR, with a 10% working interest.
