Investment holding Reatile is currently in early stages of discussions with South African energy company Sasol to explore options to address potential gas supply shortages in South Africa.
This follows Sasol’s announcement in 2023 regarding potential supply shortages by June 2026, as the sole large-scale natural gas provider in the country.
Simphiwe Mehlomakulu, Chairman of Reatile Group, stated: “Reatile Group remains optimistic about achieving a secure and sustainable energy future through collective stakeholder efforts and innovative approaches like the LNG terminal project.”
Reatile, along with its subsidiary Vopak, is part of a consortium appointed for the Transnet National Ports Authority’s LNG terminal project in Richards Bay set to be completed by 2026-2027.
