H.E. Denis Sassou-Nguesso, President of the Republic of the Congo – in the presence of H.E. Jean Jacques Bouya, Minister of Territorial Development, Infrastructure and Road Maintenance, and H.E. Gilbert Mokoki, Minister of Health and Population – has inaugurated a new hospital, located in Ngoyo, Pointe-Noire’s sixth district.
Dubbed the Ngoyo General Hospital, the 200-bed facility was built as part of the Health for All initiative, which involves the construction of 12 hospitals across the small central African nation to ensure improved health care access to the country’s five million citizens.
Inaugurated on 21 January 2022, the Ngoyo General Hospital comprises seven pavilions dedicated for hospital services as well as three buildings for the facility’s technical sectors, in addition to a medical gas production center, a clinical analysis laboratory, a 250-seat conference room, and a water purification unit.
Since construction works started in 2013, the project has generated 1,000 direct and 3,000 indirect jobs, thus boosting the local economy through job creation and local participation. Built a short distance from the city center on five hectares of land, the 16,300 m2 hospital complex benefits from a 30,462 m2 parking lot, and a 12,830 m2 garden space, making it one of the largest hospitals in Pointe-Noire.
In order to ensure continuous power supply to its facilities, the hospital also comprises a power plant with six 550 KVA generators and a special powerline. This way, the hospital ensures that power supply does not impact patient care and hospital procedures.
