Senegal’s national oil company (NOC) Petrosen has announced that the Yakaar-Teranga gas project is expected to make a final investment decision in 2025. Production on Yakaar-Teranga is expected to start between 2028 and 2029.
Announced by Petrosen Director General Thierno Ly at this year’s African Energy Week conference in Cape Town, the NOC has also called on a third-party partner to join the project.
“We are working with our partner Kosmos Energy [on the project],” Ly stated. “We are in the final stages of the project and are looking for a partner to join us to bring added value to this project. By end of year, we anticipate a third-party to join us.”
With total recoverable resources estimated at 25 trillion cubic feet of gas, the Yakaar-Teranga project will focus on producing natural gas for the domestic market in Senegal. The project is operated by upstream oil company Kosmos Energy, which holds a 90% stake, while Petrosen holds the remaining 10% interest.
