Senegalese national oil company Petrosen has completed feasibility studies for the commissioning project of a fertilizer production plant that will have a capacity of 100,000 tons per year of urea.
The plant, named Senegal Fertilizer Company (SEFCO), aims to locally utilize the gas discovered off the coast of Senegal to achieve self-sufficiency in urea and better utilize its phosphate through the formulation of NPK compound fertilizers.
The feasibility studies include a market study confirming the competitiveness of the future SEFCO plant compared to other global urea exporters, aiming to reverse Senegal’s trade balance regarding urea and NPK fertilizers.
Petrosen will supply the West African sub-region, including Mali, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Ghana, those of Europe but also the United States and Brazil.
