Brazilian state-owned oil company Petrobas has offered to buy a major stake in energy firm Galp Energia’s Mopane oil discovery, offshore Namibia.
If accepted, Petrobras will become the operator of the Mopane field, which holds an estimated 10 billion barrels of oil equivalent.
Over 12 global firms – including energy majors Shell and ExxonMobil – have expressed interest in acquiring a share in the Mopane project. This comes after Galp launched the sale of a 40% stake in the field in April 2024.
