Perenco Oil & Gas Gabon (POGG) has spud an appraisal well near the Hylia South West discovery offshore Gabon.
With the well, the independent oil and gas company aims to target the Ntchengue Ocean (NTO) reservoir and lower Madiela carbonate reservoir. Operated by Dixstone’s BANBA jack-up rig, the drilling process is expected to last approximately 30 days.
Adrien Broche, General Manager of POGG, emphasized the importance of this appraisal drilling in unlocking the area’s full potential.
“It is designed to further inform our understanding of both the NTO and Madiela reservoirs and to narrow our estimate of oil resources in place, presently estimated at between 20 and 100+ million barrels,” he said.
Discovered in December 2022 through the HYSM-1 exploration well, the Hylia South West field has displayed promising results with a substantial oil-bearing column in the NTO reservoir. Since its discovery, the field has seen rising production and currently yields 6,000 barrels of oil per day from the HYSM-01 well, operational since October 2023.
