Australian exploration company Pancontinental Energy has announced its focus on two hydrocarbon leads – Oryx and Hyrax – within the Saturn Complex of PEL 87, situated in Namibia‘s Orange Basin.
To deepen its understanding of the geology and hydrocarbon potential of these leads, the company has contracted Sequence Stratigrapher to analyze a 3D seismic survey using an AI-driven model.
“Both leads incorporate a predominantly stratigraphic trapping style, with Oryx exhibiting AVO anomalies at three levels and structural closure at one of the prospective levels,” Pancontinental stated in its Q4 2024 activity report. “Hyrax exhibits an AVO anomaly at a single level and benefits from a degree of structural control with gentle dip to the north-west.”
The survey results will enable Pancontinental to estimate available resources and evaluate the geological likelihood of successfully commercializing the deposits, according to the company.
Pancontinental Energy holds a 75% stake in PEL 87, with Custos Investments owning 15% and state-owned NAMCOR retaining a 10% interest.
