Algeria’s national oil company Sonatrach is set to resume exploration activities in Libya’s Ghadames Basin, specifically on plots 95 and 96, following a decade-long hiatus.
On December 8, Sonatrach and Libya‘s National Oil Corporation (NOC) held a technical meeting to review seismic survey data and reassess the resource potential of these areas. Notably, the A1-96/2 exploratory well, suspended for nearly a decade, is set to restart operations soon.
The NOC has extended Sonatrach’s Exploration and Production Sharing Agreement, compensating for disruptions caused by force majeure, which was lifted in November 2023.
