NNPC to lengthen Ajaokuta-Kaduna pipeline to Algeria

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) announced plans on Tuesday to extend its planned northern corridor gas pipeline to Algeria, increasing its distance by over 2,000km and advancing the corporation’s African integration agenda.
The Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano pipeline, originally extending to the northern state of Kano, is a 614km natural gas pipeline currently spearheaded by the NNPC and represents the first phase of the Trans-Nigeria Gas Pipeline project. Scheduled for commissioning in 2020, the pipeline will cost an estimated $2.8 billion and is being funded by a build and transfer public-private partnership model, which involves the contractor providing 100 percent of the funding.
The announcement was made by Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Dr. Maikati Baru, while receiving an award presented to him by the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN). Baru also announced that progress had been made in exploration activities in the northern region of the country, as the Kolmani River-II Well has recorded drilling progress of 6,700f, with a total target of 14,200f.
Prospecting by the national oil company in the Kolmani River, located in the northern Bauchi State, has been supported President Muhammadu Buhari and the corporation’s recent inland exploration activities are an integral part of the government’s planned search for hydrocarbon resources. Baru also confirmed the government’s plan to extend the West African Gas Pipeline to Morocco and praised PETAN for its contributions to the development and advancement of Nigeria’s hydrocarbon sector.
