Nigeria’s national oil company the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is set to complete the Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) Gas Pipeline project by August 2024 – according to NNPC’s Group CEO Mele Kyari.
The OB3 Gas Pipeline integrates the Eastern gas pipeline network with the Escravos-Lagos Pipeline System in the West and the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano Pipeline in the North.
“By the middle of August, we will complete this project, as assured by the project team,” said Kyari. “Once completed, we will see about 2.2 billion standard cubic feet of gas coming into our network.”
For over three years, the River Niger Crossing operation posed a significant challenge to the completion of the critical OB3 Gas Pipeline, despite numerous technological attempts to construct the 48-inch pipe under the river bed between Ndoni in Rivers State and Aboh in Delta State. However, with the introduction of innovative Micro-Tunnelling/Direct Pipe Installation technology the new contractors, Messrs HDD Thailand/Enikkom and Tunnelling Services Group (TSG), are making significant progress, having successfully completed approximately 860 meters of the 1,800-meter crossing.
