The long-awaited Dangote Refinery is set to come online in the third quarter of this year, representing the largest oil refinery on the continent and the largest single-train refinery globally. Major construction on the $19-billion refinery began in 2017.
According to a recent statement from Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Industries Ltd., the refinery will start by processing 540,000 barrels per day (bpd), before achieving its full capacity of 650,000 bpd by the end of 2022 or beginning of 2023.
The downstream megaproject is expected to transform Nigeria into a major refined crude exporter, while meeting domestic demand for gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and polypropylene.
